Well, I assume you've all got your Google Buzz accounts setup?
First point - if you go to that homepage, the "Go beyond status messages" headline is rather an unsubtle broadside at Twitter, isn't it?
Anyway - I can see this being hugely advantageous for businesses looking to capitalise on social media.
Why?
I think 'Recommended Buzz' is going to create some rather huge waves. If you haven't watched the explanatory video Google has posted on YouTube, then now's the time. Apparently, your social stream will often contain 'recommended buzzes' - content that either your friends think you'll find interesting, or Google does.
- 'Recommended Buzz' is the new SEO: For the latter, it looks like we suddenly have a new form of SEO. BO? Ignoring the rather negative connotations, will 'Buzz Optimisation' be the next big thing? Considering the rich media that can be posted directly into your social stream by companies that have something relevant to tell an audience, this can be significantly more powerful than Twitter.
- Will this make companies stop listening and start broadcasting again? Does the presence of video/audio/pictures mean that companies will now sit back and rely once again on 'broadcasting' messages? Posting a video means a lot less interaction than a 140 character post that can always be little more than the starting point of a conversation.
Exciting times...
