Our b2b social media summit took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. We thought it might be worth wrapping together the various commentary, news and opinion that came out of the show and putting it in one place.
So here it is – a quick collection of tweets, blog posts and more from our second annual B2B Corporate Social Media Summit:
Rohit Bhargava’s Blog Post of Key Learnings
Rohit is a friend of ours, and whenever he comes along to our shows, he writes up a great blog post on what he feels are the key points arising. You can read the full piece here. The much-edited, reduced and weakened version is:
- Create a library of resources and internal success stories: get a strong pipeline of positive examples for internal and external engagement
- Get smarter about content creation: It helped Steelmaster to increase lead volume by 92%. Take it seriously
- Foster internal creators first: Your people are your best spokespeople. Your people are your best spokespeople. Your people are your best spokespeople.
- Let the doers try (and sometimes fail): Relax a bit – don’t exercise a stifling level of control. Beware ‘centres of excellence’ becoming over-concerned with vetting social activity.
- Make collaboration the priority: It will help you for multiple business reasons – like innovation
- Listen to, and act on, customer suggestions: LEARN. If someone tells you something, try to do it – and show you’re doing it.
- Build relationships before you need them: 60% of all b2b sales purchase decisions are made based on the ‘pre-sales cycle’ (ie before your lead even says they’re interested
If that’s interesting, read Rohit’s full post. More examples and more detail here.
Powerful points from the Twitterverse
As is perhaps unsurprisingly the case, we had an awful lot of tweets around the conference – you can see them all by checking out hashtag #csmb2b. Some particularly good ones are below:

GREAT point: “There’s no department of email” – social is increasingly embedded throughout org, “social” dept may become obsolete #csmb2b @TheRealCherylM
Aramark taps local employees, who know cust. terms/topics to listen for, to conduct listening & conversation mgmt #csmb2b @hemmons
#CSMB2B - important to reflect sentiment behind volume of brand mentions; not all mentions are equal. don’t overlook competitive comparison. @DebCM

Citi listens first and then selects platforms where their audience is already sharing about them. #CSMB2B @paulacaprikeyak
#CSMB2B Don’t get distracted by B2C success. Volume doesn’t = influence. 1,000 influencers more important than 1M non-influencers “fans” @DebCM
Volume is the opposite of Influence…. Those 8000 likes on fb won’t always get the right people to notice you like an Influencer #csmb2b @B_WilsonJr
Start with focus – you can’t be everywhere. Which sites will have the biggest impact on your organization? #csmb2b @TheRealCherylM
